LANSING – State Representative Vicki Barnett (D-Farmington Hills) today was named Vice Chair of the Intergovernmental and Regional Affairs Committee for the 95th Legislature. Barnett was also appointed to the Agriculture, Urban Policy, and Tax Policy committees.
"It is my priority in the Legislature to cut the cost of government," said Barnett, who represents the 37th House District. "In order to strengthen our local communities, we need to attract new businesses, create jobs and provide our kids with a world-class education. I will work tirelessly to ensure that we get our state back on track."
Barnett has made it her goal to make Michigan more business-friendly and create good-paying jobs for Michigan workers, increasing access to health care and ensuring that Michigan is a leader in renewable energy production. Barnett is a co-sponsor of the Hire Michigan First plan, which will ensure that Michigan workers get the first chance at jobs created by companies that benefit from state economic development programs or tax breaks. Barnett also recently proposed a plan to end lifetime health care benefits for legislators, and is a co-sponsor of a plan to cut legislator pay.
